Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is the single most common cause of vaginal infection in the developed world. Most sexually active women are likely to experience a mild case in their lifetime at least once. It is caused by a bacterial imbalance in the vaginal tract, not to be confused with a yeast infection, which is caused by the introduction of bacteria foreign to the area. Symptoms include grayish discharge with an unpleasant smell, itching, and tingling. About half of women affected, though, will have no obvious symptoms – you could be affected by BV without even knowing it, and this can be especially dangerous if you use an IUD, are pregnant, or are planning to become pregnant in the near future.

It's common, and it's nothing to be ashamed of, but it's also not something you really want to rush off to the doctor to treat, is it? There's nothing worse than having cold fingers and instruments poking and prodding at your most intimate places. The antibiotic used to treat bacterial vaginosis normally – metronidazole – commonly causes stomach upset and nausea, and there are less common but more severe side effects to be wary of as well – including a relatively high rate of severe allergy. This is one case in which the doctor-prescribed cure is almost as bad as the problem itself.

So what do you do instead? Well, why not try a natural cure first? Well tested and proven effective in many cases, the natural cure for bacterial vaginosis is much safer, more comfortable, and easier than seeing a doctor; there's no prescription required, so no embarrassing medical checkups with a flashlight being shone up your nether regions, and no-one else ever has to know you had it. What could possibly be better? Well, maybe if the cure was chocolate flavored, but you can't have everything, right?
